After a particularly grueling winter and spring, summer is finally here! The Summer Solstice is on Saturday, June 20. Each year, this is the day where the sun reaches its highest point in the Northern Hemisphere, meaning it’s the longest day of the year, so it’s a great time to get some extra special fun in!
Summer always brings warm weather, sunshine, and lots of fun opportunities in Baltimore! This year, let’s celebrate the first day of summer with some of these awesome summer favorites:
On a hot summer day, nothing hits the spot quite like an ice cold treat!
Grab a cup (or a cone) of ice cream from Bmore Licks. This Baltimore favorite serves up some of the best homemade ice cream in the city. They offer tons of different flavors of both soft-serve and hard ice cream, including summer-y delicacies like Hazelnut S’mores and Watermelon Chocolate Chip. For a more non-traditional option, their cookiewich ice cream sandwiches are divine!
You can also enjoy ice cream’s lighter cousin, frozen yogurt. We love the froyo from Afters Cafe, where they have fun and funky flavors like Creamy Nutella and classics like Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry.
Pretend you are strolling down the streets of Italy with an ice-cold gelato from Pitango Gelato, conveniently located in the heart of Fell’s Point. Pick up a pint to-go and select from flavors like Matcha, White Grapefruit, Dark Chocolate and more.
Enjoy a true Baltimore tradition with a Snowball from Quality Snowballs! This icy treat, served with all your favorite toppings, is sure to please. Check out their Instagram page to see their refreshing offerings (warning: cravings may occur)!
Do you prefer to cool off with a refreshing beverage? There are lots of fantastic drink options that are just as delicious as any dessert.
Wet City in Mt. Vernon is offering curbside pickup and delivery on their beers, cocktails, spirits, and more. Their Freezer Pops are a delectable remix of a childhood favorite, with upgraded adult flavors like Amaretto Sour, Piña Colada, and Strawberry Mezcalita. We also love their Mommy Shark tiki cocktail and Grandma Shark tiki cocktail, each of which are served in a shark cup. Scroll through their Instagram page to see shots of their many Insta-worthy drinks, like a Coconut Mojito in a souvenir Palm Tree Cup.
Mother’s Grille in Federal Hill also has loads of options for refreshing bevs, like crushes made with Smirnoff Red, White and Berry, “fun bags” (a grown-up juice box), spiked snowballs and more.
Papi’s in Fell’s Point has some of the best frozen margs in town. Make sure to check out their daily food and drink Happy Hour specials, too!
For cool summer evening sips, you can’t beat the Tiki Bar at Bo Brooks. They have some really fun combinations, like their infamous “Bananas in Pajamas,” a frozen cocktail that will transport you to the Bahamas in an instant. You can also pick up a “Booze Bucket” in varieties that scream summertime, like frozen sangria, orange crush, rum punch, or strawberry lemonade.
