The Charm City Scene: September 13 – September 19

This week’s Charm City Scene is packed full of events that are sure to please your taste buds and senses.

Let’s start the week off right with a sweet treat from Federal Hill’s Rodney Henry, owner of Dangerously Delicious Pies. On Tuesday September 14th,  a perfect mixture of baking and beautiful music will take over your evening if you choose to attend Sip & Bake, a pie-making demo hosted by Rodney. His grandmother taught him how to whip up the crusty creations, so you know his recipes and mixing skills will not disappoint. During his demo, he’ll share some sweet baking secrets, and afterward, you’ll be able to enjoy a selection of yummy pies expertly paired with wine and the sweet vocals of Teporah Bilezikian. Sounds like a slice of heaven to us!

Moving onto something that will satisfy you ascetically, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County presents The Velvet Years 1965-67: Warhol’s Factory exhibit, which runs until December 12th this year. The Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery will be displaying photos shot by Stephen Shore of Andy and his studio, better known as “the Factory,” with highlights from the days he spent promoting The Velvet Underground.  Since Warhol was so active with a diverse group of artists, ranging from musicians and bands to actors and writers, we’re positive these photos will give a unique insight into the late creative’s fifteen plus minutes of fame.

Finally, we recommend catching a documentary about activists coming together to change the way kids eat at our local schools in Baltimore. On Saturday September 18, The Patterson will be screening Cafeteria Man, followed by a panel discussion with Anthony Geraci, the Director of Food and Nutrition for Baltimore City Public Schools, and the filmmakers. The soon-to-be-released doc follows Geraci to Baltimore City Schools as he advocates ditching processed foods for locally-grown, freshly-prepared meals. It’s one part lunch lady, two parts local love, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the greening of public school diets in Baltimore.
