The Charm City Scene: August 9 – August 15

We’ve got a week filled with ambient beats and grooves to get you swingin’ in this edition of the Charm City Scene

Our first recommended event is on Thursday night. Folk sensation Dustin Wong will be at the Mobtown Studios for their monthly microshow. This week’s show starts at 8pm, and doors open at 7:30pm. The show is free, but space is very limited, so get there early or reserve a spot beforehand by emailing them to catch this unique experience.

Next, swing your week away at Baltimore Strut. Every Friday, Charm City Swing (a delightful business name if we don’t say so ourselves : ) hosts a night of fancy footwork at the Sankofa Dance Theater. For just $5, drop by and dance the night away! If you’re a swing newbie, have no fear; there’s a free beginner class before the strut starts to teach you the basics. Come with a group, a partner, or meet new friends by showing up solo. Lindy hop it like it’s hot!

Next up, get your game boy, power glove and Commodore 64 ready because it’s time to rock out to some 8-bit awesomeness with the 5th Annual Bit Gen Gamer Fest. Head over to Sonar for this festival that celebrates video game themed rock. Didn’t know there was a video game music scene? Well we’re pretty sure Power Glove, The Protomen, and Entertainment System will get you up to speed! The walls of Sonar will be lined with consoles and classic arcade cabinets, guaranteeing simultaneous rocking and geeking out.

Once you give your tired legs and thumbs a break, check back next week for another edition of the CCS!
