The Charm City Scene: August 16 – August 22

Charm City Scene, Warpaint and The Collective

Ready for a sensory overload edition of the scene? Well you’re in luck because this week’s Charm City Scene is serving up some delicious treats for all your senses.

The scene’s first event is already in full swing so let’s get to it. This week is the Baltimore Summer Restaurant Week. It kicked off last Friday but runs through this Sunday August 22. With quite a list of participating restaurants, you and your foodie friends can grab a lunch or a 3 course dinner for $20.10 or $35.10, respectively. This is not a week to worry about what’s for dinner! An added bonus to a week of food? Check out the list of parking garages offering Restaurant Week discounts.

Up next on this sensory scene we have something for your eyes and ears, Warpaint is playing over at the Ottobar tomorrow night (Tuesday August 17) with Javelin and Beach Fossil. These girls have a great sound and from what we’ve heard trickle out of SXSW and Lollapalooza, they put on an amazing live show. So be sure not to miss them while they grace Baltimore with their presence. If you’d like to prepare yourself before the show, check out the post on I Guess I’m Floating covering their performance at Lollapalooza.

Last but certainly not least is The Collective’s POP ART show. The show has been described as tapping into their “modern dance roots with elements of hip hop, swing, capoeira, and salsa to create an upbeat mix of dances that reflect pop culture.” This makes for quite an interesting show by Baltimore’s best dance company consisting of 4 different sets centered around the theme of pop culture. One set is the choreographers take on Alice in Wonderland to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It’s going to be a very interesting night to say the least.

Hope you’ll go out and enjoy this barrage of your senses that is this week’s CCS, take the weekend to recover and we’ll see you here for next week’s edition.
