The Charm City Scene: August 2 – August 8

We’ve got a healthy blend of events for you in this week’s Charm City Scene.

Starting off this week’s Charm City Scene, we have the triumphant return of Lilith Fair. After a decade long hiatus, the festival returns with a power-packed female lineup at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. Focusing a bit closer to home, the Little Italy Open Air Film Festival continues with The Italian Job this Thursday. Finally, an exhibit you can’t miss, “Bicycle: The Art of Cycling” runs until the 22nd over at the Mark Cottman Gallery.

For those who don’t know about Lilith Fair, it was founded in 1997 by Sarah McLachlan as a response to concert promoters who refused to schedule two female musician sets back-to-back. After proving that she could have a successful tour with two consecutive female musicians Sarah put together Lilith Fair, which includes all female or female-fronted bands. The tour raises money for charities supporting women.  Lilith Fair ended in 1999 having raised $10 million dollars for women’s charities in North America. It has been revived this summer after a decade out of the spotlight, and will be hitting the Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 3. The festival will keep the tradition of a strong female lineup alive this year with acts such as Cat Power, Sara Bareilles, Sarah McLachlan, Indigo Girls, Lissie, and Jesca Hoop.

The Little Italy Open Air Film Festival continues this Thursday, August 6, at the corner of High & Stiles with The Italian Job. They’ll start projecting the movie on the outside wall of Ciao Bella Restaurant in DaMimmo Restaurant’s parking lot around 9 pm. Come early if you want to grab a seat in the folding chairs provided on a first come, first served basis.

Last, but not least, the Mark Cottman Gallery will be exhibiting “Bicycle: The Art of Cycling” including paintings and other media centered around the theme of cycling. It will be running until August 22nd, so swing by Monday through Saturday from 11am to 6pm, or from 12pm to 5pm  on film War for the Planet of the Apes 2017

Definitely an exciting lineup for the scene this week, so be sure to get out there and experience what the Charm City has to offer!
