The Charm City Scene: A weekly guide to Baltimore from The Fitzgerald
Every Monday, we give you the inside Charm City scoop. Find out what’s happening in and around Mount Vernon, home to The Fitzgerald apartments. For our first edition of Charm City Scene, we’ve got quite the lineup for you.
First up, we have the 8X10 Open Mic Night contest on Tuesday 6/29 at 7pm. While this is an open mic night, it’s also part of their year long contest. Every Tuesday evening, two winners are chosen (1 by 8X10, 1 by the audience) from the open mic night participants. The winners of these nights then go head-to-head with everyone that won throughout the month. It just so happens that the following night, Wednesday 6/30 at 7pm, is the monthly finals night for May. The lucky winner of this night will have to beat 7 other winners from that month. After winning, they’re entered into the quarter finals. Each level of the competition has prize packages that any young artist would appreciate. So grab your axe or grab a seat, because you’re in for a fun night.
If an open mic isn’t your thing and you’re looking for something a little more adventurous in the great outdoors, you should definitely check out Go Ape Treetop Adventure. Held in the forest canopy of the Rock Creek Regional Park, you’ll swing your way through zip lines, rope courses, and Tarzan swings 40 feet above the ground! Go Ape Treetop Adventure is open Thursday-Monday from 8am-Dusk. It’s perfect for an adventure-filled day that’s closely followed by an adventurous night on the town, say at the Black Cat?
Canadian band Islands, is playing at Black Cat this Thursday (7/1) with Steel Phantoms and Active Child. Catch their mellifluous pop tunes performed with a cast of characters from Montreal’s thriving music scene. Tickets are $15 and the doors open at 8pm. This is definitely a great way to spend a Thursday night!
Well folks, that concludes our first ever Charm City Scene. We hope you enjoyed it and be sure to check here next Monday for our next edition. And don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for our posts throughout the week for more information about what’s happening in and around The Fitzgerald’s neighborhood.
