The Charm City Scene: July 26 – August 1

Calling all Blue Star Cadets! Get your red beanie and Glock ready because we’ve got another great Charm City Scene heading your way with the fury of a full-grown Jaguar shark.

Starting off the week, we have a potentially tough decision for our loyal readers: listen to the sweet music of Seu Jorge and Almaz or improve your cooking with some help from Whole Foods? It’s quite the predicament we know, so how about a little more detail to better assess the situation.

Seu Jorge and Almaz will be preforming an early show at the 9:30 Club on Tuesday at 6pm. Seu Jorge and Almaz is a Brazilian samba renaissance group headed by Seu Jorge, who’s most widely known outside of Brazil for his work on film soundtracks. In one such film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, he covered David Bowie songs beautifully sung in Portuguese.

Another great choice is the next class in a healthy eating series put on by the Mount Washington Whole Foods, which they host every Tuesday from 7-8pm. In this week’s class, you’ll learn all about gluten-free cooking and how to prepare recipes from in-store experts. So if you’re already gluten-free and looking for new recipes, or if you’re curious about starting a gluten-free diet, we can’t think of a better way to get healthy! Since space is limited, registering beforehand is required, so call 410. 532.6700 or visit the Mount Washington Whole Foods’ customer service department for more details.

Last but not least, we have a fun way to cool off this Saturday with the 9th annual water ballet benefit show and pool party. It’s put on by Fluid Movement, a non-profit performance art group based here in Baltimore. They’ll be performing Jason and the Aquanauts: 20,000 Legs Over the Sea. For more information and tickets, check out their website.

Now get out there you Blue Star Cadets! And remember, all interns have to share a Glock, so try not to run into any pirates because we’d like you to come back and check us out next week.
